iTunes 9 takes sharing your iTunes library to a whole new level! But the configuration of this featured could leave you a little bit in the dark. Here are some suggestions to help you along:
1. MAKE 100% SURE you are using the same iTunes account on both computers, whether they are Mac or PC!
2. Make sure both the "Share my local library on the network" and "Look for shared libraries" boxes checked on iTunes on both computers.
3. If the home icon disappears after configuration, shut everything down, start up again, and make sure that iTunes is open on both computers.
4. If you are on a Mac, you may need to adjust your firewall settings (in System Preferences->Security->Firewall tab) to allow incoming connections for iTunes.
5. On Windows Vista or Windows 7 if you have the Windows Firewall turned on (and you should!) you will have to do the following steps:
- Open Windows Firewall and added two other programs and two ports to the exceptions list:
:iTunesHelper
:iTunesPhoto** (sorry I can't remember the exact file name, but only these two exist in the Program Files -> iTunes folder except iTunes.exe)
Port 3689 : TCP
Port 5353 : UDP
If it still does not work, you may need to open and forward those ports in your router.
